Þingvellir in evening light

Private tours · Keflavík Airport · Layovers

The Golden Circle from Keflavík Airport.
Arrival day, departure day or layover — private.

Your guide meets you in the arrivals hall, luggage rides along, and you see Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss on the way into Reykjavík — or on the way out, in time for an evening flight. 1–8 guests, one price per group.

Arrival day, departure day, layover

Land at Keflavík, see the Golden Circle, sleep in Reykjavík — or fly on.

Keflavík Airport is 45 minutes from Reykjavík and about 90 minutes from Þingvellir. Your guide meets you in the arrivals hall with a sign, loads the luggage, and you're at the rift while your body still thinks it's on the plane. Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss, then drop-off at your Reykjavík hotel in the early evening.

On departure day we run it backwards: pickup at your hotel in the morning, the three stops, and Keflavík in time for an evening flight. Bags stay in the vehicle the whole day.

Keflavík pickup or drop-off is 25,000 kr on top of the tour price, per group. If your flight is delayed, your guide tracks it and waits — a late arrival shortens the day, it doesn't cancel it. For departures we plan to have you at the terminal 2½ hours before the flight, and we've never missed one.

Practical

Luggage, jet lag and the sensible order of things

Luggage rides with you and stays locked in the vehicle at every stop. Wear the shoes you'll walk in, keep a jacket accessible, and let your guide know if anyone needs a nap on the drive — we've done this route with a lot of red-eye arrivals from North America. The first stop is 90 minutes from the airport, which is exactly long enough for a coffee and a reset before the walk at Þingvellir.

Arriving on the same day as a cruise departure from Reykjavík? We do that too.

Questions

Asked before this tour

Can we do the Golden Circle straight from Keflavík Airport?

Yes. Your guide meets you in the arrivals hall and you go straight to Þingvellir — the airport is about 90 minutes from the first stop. Luggage stays in the vehicle all day and we drop you at your Reykjavík hotel in the early evening. Keflavík pickup is 25,000 kr per group on top of the tour price.

Is the Golden Circle possible on a layover?

With eight hours or more between flights, yes — Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss with a 2½-hour buffer at the airport before departure. With five to eight hours we suggest two of the three stops, or the Reykjanes peninsula and the Blue Lagoon area, which are close to the airport. Tell us your flight times and we'll plan it.

What if our arriving flight is late?

Your guide checks the flight status and waits at arrivals. A late arrival shortens the day rather than cancelling it; if the delay is so long that the tour can't run, you get a full refund.

When do we need to be at the airport for a departure?

We plan for 2½ hours before departure for international flights, and we build the day back from that. If you'd like more buffer, say so and we'll leave Gullfoss earlier.

How much does a private Golden Circle tour cost?

154,900 kr for a private group of 1–4 and 184,900 kr for 5–8, VAT included — per group, not per person. For a family of four that's about 38,725 kr each; for eight, about 23,112 kr each, which is close to a small-group minibus seat but with your own guide, your own timing and nobody else on board. Entrances, parking and Reykjavík hotel pickup are included; the only extras are optional add-on stops with admission fees, Keflavík pickup (25,000 kr) and extra hours (15,000 kr each).

How long is the Golden Circle tour?

About six hours door to door — roughly 240 km of driving with an hour or so at each of the three stops. Because it's private, that's a starting point rather than a schedule: stay longer at Gullfoss, add Kerið, or ask for a shorter five-hour version if you have a flight or a ship to catch.

Is this suitable for children?

Yes. The walking is easy — level paths and boardwalks, never more than half an hour at a stretch. Children count toward the group of eight, and child seats are available if you tell us the ages when you book.

How do we pay, and when?

Send the request, we confirm your date by email within a few hours, and you pay by card (Visa / Mastercard) through a secure Straumur link. Nothing is charged until you've confirmed, and your date is reserved once payment is received. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
